Scorpions w/ Cinderella 7.5.2010

Trib Total Media Amphitheatre, Station Square, Pittsburgh, PA

Well, it didn't rain - how novel, considering this is Pittsburgh - the Seattle of the east!  But was it ever hot and muggy!  Adding to that misery was the fact that this venue is nothing more than a stage set up at one end of what used to be a parking lot, with rows of plastic chairs that could have easily become projectiles if someone got pissed off.  No, Trib Total Media Amphitheatre at Station Square is not exactly comfortable, but who needs comfort?  We're here for Rock - n - Roll!

Cinderella and the Scorpions were playing, and the place was packed!  Having just seen Cinderella at M3, I wasn't concerned with photographing them again.  The Scorpions were a different story, however.  I didn't have a pass for them at M3, and ended up leaving early.  This is actually the biggest name band I’ve photographed yet, and I got there thanks to my new affiliation with Revolution Magazine.  Please check out my full review over there (should be up in a day or two) -

As  for the conditions there - this place has one of the highest stages I’ve seen.  Fortunately, the barricade was set well back or all my shots would have been looking straight up the guys’ noses!  It was impossible to get a good shot of the screen they had behind them, which is a shame, since it was rather entertaining.  A small catwalk and no walkway around the crowd at the front meant that I was limited to the one side of the stage for my three song limit.  Had the security guys been a little less uptight, I might have been able to sneak off a few from back in the crowd.  As it was, I couldn’t even review what I had just shot without the guy getting upset.  Oh, well.  We like for security to be our friends, so we do as we’re told.

Anyway, the show was great - my fiance is not a huge fan of concerts and wasn’t overly familiar with either band, but he liked both sets  - that says something!  I highly recommend catching this tour if you can - the Scorpions are retiring after this one, and that will be the music world’s loss!
